The brick/stone is all finished except for the very front of the house. All the sheetrock has been finished and next week the plan is for them to texture and paint! Brock came to me one day last week and said "I have a confession...I think you were right on not wanting austin stone for the house..." (that was the one thing he INSISTED on- pure white stone- so he got it) "I think I will listen to you now on decorating" :) Now while this made me very happy for him to actually admit he might have made a mistake AND to give me full control on decorating, I don't think the stone looks bad! (but don't tell Brock)
Also, the rug and entry table I mentioned (Homeowners.), they have since been returned :) Have to love how often I change my mind! The rug ended up being the wrong color because the company has since changed the dye on the background. It was just too brown. The entry hall table.. well with some other pieces I have picked out it just would have been too much of the same thing. Here are a few of the new purchases:
This will be the entry hall rug. The picture just does not do it justice! This rug has so much texture- I do not like "flat" rugs. It is black, grey, and beige not blue like it looks in this picture...
This will be the living room rug.
This is our new sofa/chaise lounge/day bed that will go in one of the spare rooms.
Also purchased, but I don't have any pictures yet, are two barstools! Now I saw these barstools originally at Restoration Hardware but I knew that Brock would kick me out of the house along with the barstools if I ever paid that much for them. So- I found them at Dallas World Trade Center :) The EXACT same stools for a 1/5 of the price! I think this will be all of my purchases before we actually move in- The rest I really need to see how things layout first. The office area will be my next big tackle!
A few weeks ago, Brock and I went to Salt Lake City for his cousin Jeremy's 40th birthday bash! This was my first time in Utah and I must say I am most envious of the weather... Brock showed me around his old "stomping grounds" and Kristin threw a fabulous party! It was a fun, much need, weekend getaway!
Brock and I have been hunting for a house for a few months now and finally found one! It is a perfect location for both of us and is a great compromise to our two completely different styles. It was set to be a spec home but we came in and purchased it at framing stage so we still had time to change things and pick out all the interior and exterior features etc
Last week I was able to go to the design center and pick out everything for the house- brick, stone, flooring, tile, light fixtures, paint, texture, sinks, and more! There were way too many choices for me to pick alone so my Mom came along- thank goodness! She has a much better eye for this sort of thing and visualizing it all together.
This is the exterior brick and stone. Brock insisted on "Austin Stone" and since that was the only thing he really cared about- I complied :)
There will only be tile in the utility room and bathrooms. The small stone detailing above will be in the bathrooms in the shower. The carpet will only be in the bedrooms.
I was able to get my way and got hardwood everywhere else! This was a battle I even had my Mom help me fight! We took Brock to two model homes- one with hardwoods and one without. He then started to see our side- funny how that works ;) The white travertine will be in the kitchen as the backsplash.
We also did something very different to our fireplace, but I am going to leave that as a surprise! The house is scheduled to be finished end of August or first week or two in September. So being the impatient person that I am- I have already started buying things to decorate:
First purchase: the living room rug! (this was a model, so that is not our furniture)
Second purchase: Entry hall table! It is kind of hard to see because of the wood candle sticks on one side and since it was backed up to a couch... but you can get the general look
There have been several other smaller purchases: couch pillows, entry rug, throws, etc But I am trying to pace myself so that I can drag out the fun :) Looking forward to having everyone over in September for a house warming party!
